The Sky Capsule is lovely at any time, but at sunset it becomes something else. Gliding slowly over the sea as the sky turns gold and pink, in a private pod with full-glass windows, is one of the most romantic half-hours Busan offers — and it's why the sunset slots are the most sought-after of the day. If you can only ride once, and you can choose your time, ride at sunset.
Ride Cheongsapo to Mipo
The key detail is direction. The Cheongsapo-to-Mipo leg faces west, straight toward the setting sun over Haeundae, so it's the direction that puts the sunset in your window rather than behind you. Handily, it's also the less popular of the two directions — most people chase the sea-side Mipo-to-Cheongsapo track — which means the sunset run is often easier to book. It's the rare case where the best choice is also the more available one.
Timing the slot
To be actually gliding as the light turns, book a capsule slot 30 to 60 minutes before the real sunset time for your date — the ride takes about thirty minutes, so a slot starting shortly before sunset has you on the track through the best of it. Check the sunset time for your specific evening (it shifts a lot across the year in Korea) and reserve accordingly, ideally a few days ahead, because these slots go first.
If the sunset slot is gone
Sunset capsules do sell out, so have a backup. A slot a little earlier still catches beautiful low, warm light; the Cheongsapo skywalk and the coastal walk are both superb at golden hour if you'd rather watch the sunset on foot after an earlier ride; and the Beach Train runs later into the evening for a ground-level sunset along the shore. The sunset capsule is the dream, but the whole coast is glorious at dusk — booking early is simply how you secure the best version of it.
